On
the tool bar (A) there are five tools that allow you to
move around the map. Use the zoom in tool
to
view an area close up. Use the zoom out tool
to
view a larger area. The zoom to last view tool
returns to the map to the previous view, and the zoom to full extent tool
returns
the map to a countywide view. To move around the map without
changing the scale, use the pan tool
.
Use
the Identify tool
to
get information on a particular feature in the selectable layer.
Click on the feature and
attributes for that feature are displayed. If there are more than one
feature at a location, or features that are very close
together, the records for all those features will be
displayed. Use the Get Photo tool
to
link to photos.
The
“Map Layers” list (B) allows you to determine which
layers are visible and which layer is selectable. To make a layer visible, check the box
next to the layer. Some
layers, like “Parcels”, are scale dependant.
That means that whether they are visible depends upon the scale of the map.
The Parcels layer does not show up until you zoom in to a neighborhood level.
There can be
as many visible layers as you like, but there can only be one
selectable layer. The selectable layer is the layer that you can
identify. To make a layer selectable, click the button next
to it in the layers list. For more information about the
data sets, click on the layer name for a brief description and metadata.
